Tillage

Before we start tilling, we analyse soil samples to establish whether sufficient quantities of nutrients are still present in the soil. The appropriate amount of fertilizer is then applied on the basis of the analysis findings, enabling the plants to get off to a perfect start following tillage. Thorough preparation is half the battle after all!

Planting

We have a long standing business relationship with our reliable supplier of cuttings, Royal van Zanten. They invariably ensure that we receive clean and sound plant material at the appropriate time. And once our planting robot has done its job with the chrysanthemum cuttings, we ensure that they receive all the attention necessary. To assist the plants’ growth, we give them extra light, while also applying natural pest and disease control.

Organic control

To ensure that our plants sprout undamaged flowers, we release organic control agents weekly during cultivation, which thrive on harmful pests. We deploy a total of 1,500,000,000 organic control agents annually to assist us in supplying the most stunning, pristine chrysanthemums to our customers.

Topping

When the chrysanthemums reach the flowering stage, buds start to emerge that grow into flowers. Our secondary school students then remove the main bud (also known as topping) to ensure that all the other flowers bloom simultaneously, developing into a splendid spray chrysanthemum.

Harvesting

Our employees start harvesting the chrysanthemums at the ideal moment. Stems in groups of five are placed on the conveyor belt, which transports them to the machine.

Sleeving and packing

Once the flowers arrive at the machine, the lower 15cm of the stems are de-leaved and a rubber band is attached to create bunches. The chrysanthemums are subsequently packed in attractive sleeves bearing our name. These flowers are then immediately conveyed to the refrigeration department, where they are cooled to the appropriate storage temperature.

Export

The flowers are dispatched to Royal Flora Holland’s auction houses in Naaldwijk and Aalsmeer the same day. The very next morning, the chrysanthemums are purchased and delivered to the wholesalers.

Transport

The chrysanthemums purchased by wholesalers for their clients are then distributed to the end customers throughout Europe and further afield!
